ASTM E1 - Specification for ASTM Thermometers. ASTM E77 - Verification and Calibration of Liquid-in-Glass Thermometers. ASTM F708 - Design and Installation of Rigid Pipe Hangers. MSS SP58 - Pipe Hangers and Supports - Materials, Design and Manufacturer. MSS SP69 - Pipe Hangers and Supports - Selection and Application. MSS SP89 - Pipe Hangers and Supports - Fabrication and Installation Practices. Submit in accordance with provisions of Section 23 00 10. Gages and Meters: Provide list which indicates use, operating range, total range and location for manufactured components. Supports and Anchors: Provide manufacturers catalog data including load capacity. Motors: Provide wiring diagrams with electrical characteristics and connection requirements. Mechanical Identification: Provide manufacturers catalog literature for each product required. Vibration Isolation: Provide schedule of vibration isolator type with location and load on each. Flexible Pipe Connectors: Indicate maximum temperature and pressure rating, face-to-face length, live length, hose wall thickness, hose convolutions per foot and per assembly, fundamental frequency of assembly, braid structure, and total number of wires in braid. Products Requiring Electrical Connection: Listed and classified by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., as suitable for the purpose specified and indicated. Exterior Sleeve: Single braided stainless steel Pressure Rating: 200 psig WOG and 250°F Maximum Offset: ¾” on each side of installed center line. Pressure Rating: 200 psig WOG and 250°F Maximum Offset: ¾” on each side of installed center line Other acceptable manufacturers offering equivalent products. Conform to ASTM F708, MSS SP58, MSS SP69, MSS SP89. Hangers for Pipe Sizes 1/2 to 12": Malleable iron adjustable swivel, split ring. Hangers for Cold Pipe Sizes 2" and Over: Carbon steel, adjustable, clevis. Hangers for Hot Pipe Sizes 2 to 4": Carbon steel, adjustable, clevis. Hangers for Hot Pipe Sizes 6" and Over: Adjustable steel yoke, cast iron roll, double hanger. Multiple or Trapeze Hangers: Steel channels with welded spacers and hanger rods. Multiple or Trapeze Hangers for Hot Pipe Sizes 6" and Over: Steel channels with welded spacers and hanger rods, cast iron roll. Wall Support for Pipe Sizes to 3": Cast iron hook. Wall Support for Pipe Sizes 4" and Over: Welded steel bracket and wrought steel clamp. Wall Support for Hot Pipe Sizes 6" and Over: Welded steel bracket and wrought steel clamp with adjustable steel yoke and cast iron roll. Metal Flashing: 26 gage galvanized steel. Metal Counterflashing: 22 gage galvanized steel. Flexible Flashing: 47 mil thick sheet butyl; compatible with roofing. Caps: Steel, 22 gage minimum; 16 gage at fire resistant elements. Fabrication: Welded 18 gage galvanized steel shell and base, mitered 3" cant, 1-1/2" thick insulation, factory installed wood nailer. Sleeves for Rectangular Ductwork: Galvanized steel. Firestopping Insulation: Glass fiber type, non-combustible. Firestopping for ductwork shall be 3M, Dow, Corning fire caulk/packing or accepted substitute. Install steel angles around duct penetrations. Sleeves for Pipes Through Non-Fire Rated Floors: 18 ga galvanized steel. Sleeves for Pipes Through Non-Fire Rated Beams, Walls, Footings and Potentially Wet Floors: Steel pipe or 18 ga galvanized steel. Motors Less Than 250 Watts, for Intermittent Service: Equipment manufacturer's standard and need not conform to these specifications. Refer to Section 26 01 80 for required electrical characteristics. Open drip-proof except where specifically noted otherwise. Motors: Design for continuous operation in 40°C environment. Design for temperature rise in accordance with NEMA MG 1 limits for insulation class, service factor, and motor enclosure type. All motors shall be high efficiency type. Explosion-Proof Motors: UL approved and labeled for hazard classification, with over temperature protection. Visible Nameplate: Indicating motor horsepower, voltage, phase, cycles, RPM, full load amps, locked rotor amps, frame size, manufacturer's name and model number, service factor, power factor, efficiency. Provide terminal lugs to match branch circuit conductor quantities, sizes, and materials indicated. Enclose terminal lugs in terminal box sized to NFPA 70, threaded for conduit. For fractional horsepower motors where connection is made directly, provide threaded conduit connection in end frame. Plastic Tags: Laminated three-layer plastic with engraved black letters on light contrasting background color. Tag size minimum 1-1/diameter. Chart: Typewritten letter size list in anodized aluminum frame. Stencil Paint: As specified in Section 090900, semi- gloss enamel, colors conforming to ASME A13.1. Plastic Pipe Markers: Factory fabricated, flexible, semi-rigid plastic, preformed to fit around pipe or pipe covering; minimum information indicating flow direction arrow and identification of fluid being conveyed. Plastic Tape Pipe Markers: Flexible, vinyl film tape with pressure sensitive adhesive backing and printed markings. Underground Plastic Pipe Markers: Bright colored continuously printed plastic ribbon tape, minimum 6” wide by 4 mil thick, manufactured for direct burial service. Height of ribs shall not exceed 0.7 times width. Rubber Mount or Hanger: Molded rubber designed for 0.5" deflection with threaded insert. Glass Fiber Pads: Neoprene jacketed pre-compressed molded glass fiber. Provide roof equipment support as manufactured by Pate Co. Style ES or accepted substitute. Equipment support shall be constructed of galvanized steel with continuous welded seams for stiffness and moisture protection. Support shall be built-in raised cant, wood nailer and be 12" high minimum. Provide roof pipe curb assembly as manufactured by Pate Co. Style PCA or accepted substitute. Pipe curb assembly shall be constructed of insulated galvanized steel curb with 2" wood nailer, plastic cover and graduated neoprene boots with stainless steel clamps. Provide pipe curb assembly for piping that penetrates roof membrane. Provide roof curb isolation base for all rooftop equipment similar to Vibration Eliminator Co., Inc. Model “AR”. Nelson ES1399 Elastomeric Sealant: Water based acrylic latex, endothermic fire protective sealant. It is used for applications of through firestop penetrations and in construction joints. It is available in two grades, N/S (Non-Sag) for wall and overhead installations and S/L (Self-Leveling) for floor installations. Nelson WRS+ Firestop Wrap Strips: To be used as a wrap-around PVC type pipes. After the pipe is covered with the correct number of wraps the WRS+ is covered with a field cut and fabricated collar cover is used in conjunction with CLK or FSP which provide a smoke seal. Nelson PCS Pipe Choke System Collars: To be used on PVC type pipes and conduits to produce an immediate smoke and fire seal. Each PCS is pre-filled with a highly intumescent pliable putty material. Collars are furnished in exact sizes from 1.5” to 4”. Collars are YUL System Classified for through penetrations of drywall or concrete/masonry assemblies. Nelson LBS+ Firestop Latex Based Sealant: A one part “Latex-Water Based” Intumescent caulk that is of a non-sag formulation for use in all applications, wall, floor and overhead. All starters shall be Hand/Off/Auto type. Starters for rooftop equipment (HRU’s, EF’s, etc.) shall be mounted at the unit on the roof and shall be NEMA rated, weatherproof for exterior installation. Install positive displacement meters with isolating valves on inlet and outlet. Provide full line size valved bypass with globe valve for liquid service meters. Install pressure gages with pulsation dampers. Provide needle valve to isolate each gage. Extend nipples to allow clearance from insulation. Install thermometers in piping systems in sockets in short couplings. Enlarge pipes smaller than 2-1/2" inch for installation of thermometer sockets. Ensure sockets allow clearance from insulation. Install thermometers in air duct systems on flanges. Install thermometer sockets adjacent to controls systems thermostat, transmitter, or sensor sockets. Where thermometers are provided on local panels, duct or pipe mounted thermometers are provided on local panels, duct or pipe mounted thermometers are not required. Locate duct mounted thermometers minimum 10' downstream of mixing dampers, coils, or other devices causing air turbulence. Coil and conceal excess capillary on remote element instruments. Provide instruments with scale ranges selected according to service with largest appropriate scale. Install gages and thermometers in locations where they are easily read from normal operating level. Install vertical to 45° off vertical. Adjust gages and thermometers to final angle, clean windows and lenses, and calibrate to zero. Locate test plugs adjacent thermometers and thermometer sockets, pressure gages and pressure gage taps and where indicated. Identify roof top units with stencil painting. Small devices, such as in-line pumps, may be identified with tags. Identify control panels and major control components outside panels with plastic nameplates. Identify thermostats relating to terminal boxes or valves with nameplates. Identify ductwork with stenciled painting. Identify with air handling unit identification number and area served. Locate identification at air handling unit, at each side of penetration of structure or enclosure, and at each obstruction. Provide ceiling tacks to locate valves or dampers above T-bar type panel ceilings. Locate in corner of panel closest to equipment. Install plastic pipe markers in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Install plastic tape pipe markers complete around pipe in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Identify valves in mains and branch piping with tags. Identify piping, concealed or exposed, with plastic pipe markers. Use tags on piping ¾” diameter and smaller. Identify service, flow direction, and pressure. Install in clear view and align with axis of piping. Locate identification not to exceed 20’ on straight runs including risers and drops, adjacent to each valve and Tee, at each side of penetration of structure or enclosure, and at each obstruction. Provide ceiling tacks to locate valves or dampers above T-bar type panel ceilings. Locate in corner of panel closest to equipment. Install isolation for motor driven equipment. Set steel bases for 1" clearance between housekeeping pad and base. Set concrete inertia bases for 2" clearance between housekeeping pad and base. Prior to making piping connections to equipment with operating weights substantially different from installed weights, block up equipment with temporary shims to final height. When full load is applied, adjust isolators to load to allow shim removal. Connect wiring to isolated equipment with flexible hanging loop. All vibration isolation devices, including steel bases and pouring forms, shall be supplied by a single manufacturer. Flexible conduit shall be used for all electrical connections to isolated equipment. Flexible conduit shall be 50% longer than the actual distance between the rigid conduit and the equipment electrical connection locations. The schedule of isolators required shall be as follows: Air handling units in mechanical rooms on grade - 1/2" deflection neoprene or fiberglass pads; Ceiling mounted air handling units - 1" deflection springs; piping. For the ceiling mounted air handling units, any piping larger than 1" diameter should have the first three hangers of the same deflection as the equipment (1"). Spring hangers for piping shall consist of clevis type hangers with spring hanger similar to Grinnell Fig. 247 or Fig. B-268 installed in threaded rod. Provide and install roof curb isolation bases for all rooftop HVAC equipment. Install securely on firm foundation. Mount ball bearing motors with shaft in any position. Check line voltage and phase and ensure agreement with nameplate. Provide inserts for placement in concrete formwork. Provide inserts for suspending hangers from reinforced concrete slabs and sides of reinforced concrete beams. Provide hooked rod to concrete reinforcement section for inserts carrying pipe over 4". Where concrete slabs form finished ceiling, locate inserts flush with slab surface. Where inserts are omitted, drill through concrete slab from below and provide through-bolt with recessed square steel plate and nut above slab. Install hangers to provide minimum ½" space between finished covering and adjacent work. Place hangers within 12" of each horizontal elbow. Use hangers with 1-1/2" minimum vertical adjustment. Support horizontal cast iron pipe adjacent to each hub, with 5’ maximum spacing between hangers. Support vertical piping at every floor. Support vertical cast iron pipe at each floor at hub. Where several pipes can be installed in parallel and at same elevation, provide multiple or trapeze hangers. Support riser piping independently of connected horizontal piping. Provide copper plated hangers and supports for copper piping. Design hangers for pipe movement without disengagement of supported pipe. Provide additional supports for heavy valves and specialties and provide sway bracing where needed. Prime coat exposed steel hangers and supports. Hangers and supports located in crawl spaces, pipe shafts, and suspended ceiling spaces are not considered exposed. Insulation protection saddles shall be installed at all pipe hangers and supports for insulated lines. Saddles shall be rolled with a radius to suit the insulation O.D. Saddles shall be #16 ga galvanized steel and shall be 8" long. Provide flexible flashing and metal counterflashing where piping and ductwork penetrate weather or waterproofed walls, floors, and roofs. Flash vent and soil pipes projecting 3" minimum above finished roof surface with lead worked 1" minimum into hub, 8" minimum clear on sides with 24 x 24" sheet size. For pipes through outside walls, turn flanges back into wall and caulk, metal counterflash, and seal. Flash floor drains in floors with topping over finished areas with lead, 10" clear on sides with minimum 36 x 36" sheet size. Fasten flashing to drain clamp device. Seal floor, shower and mop sink drains watertight to adjacent materials. Provide acoustical lead flashing around ducts and pipes penetrating equipment rooms, installed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions for sound control. Provide curbs for mechanical roof installations 12" minimum high above roofing surface. Flash and counterflash with sheet metal; seal watertight. Attach counterflashing mechanical equipment and lap base flashing on roof curbs. Flatten and solder joints. Adjust storm collars tight to pipe with bolts; calk around top edge. Use storm collars above roof jacks. Screw vertical flange section to face of curb. Set sleeves in position in formwork. Provide reinforcing around sleeves. Size sleeves large enough to allow for movement due to expansion and contraction. Provide for continuous insulation wrapping. Extend sleeves through floors one inch above finished floor level. Caulk sleeves. Where piping or ductwork penetrates floor, ceiling, or wall, close off space between pipe or duct and adjacent work with fire stopping insulation and caulk airtight. Provide close fitting metal collar or escutcheon covers at both sides of penetration. Install chrome plated steel escutcheons at finished surfaces. Prepare and start systems under provisions of Section 23 00 10. C.I. Bell and Spigot (or No-Hub) and at Joints Single phase motors for shaft mounted fans or blowers: Permanent split capacitor type. Single phase motors for fans, pumps, blowers, air compressors: Capacitor start type. Motors located in exterior locations: Totally enclosed type. Motors located in outdoors: Totally enclosed weatherproof epoxy-treated type. Motors located in outdoors: Totally enclosed weatherproof epoxy-sealed type. All Motors - All motors shall be high efficiency type.
